Manual Therapy is a “hands on” approach incorporating techniques that address dysfunctions of all systems of the body including: skeletal/joint system, skeletal muscle, visceral/smooth muscle, circulatory, cardiopulmonary, and nervous.

Our therapists specialize in many different techniques and depending on the diagnoses a person may respond more favorably to one over the other.

Some of these treatment techniques may include but not limited to:

  • Myofascial release or Soft Tissue Release
  • Soft Tissue Mobilization
  • Muscle Energy Technique
  • Joint mobilizations including Mulligan Techniques
  • Strain/counter-strain Technique
  • Neural Tissue Tension Technique
  • PROM/stretching
  • Craniosacral Therapy
  • Trigger Point Release
  • Bone Bruise Technique

A specific manual therapy approach utilized at our Spine Rehabilitation center is the Integrative Manual Therapy System (IMT). IMT, developed by Sharon Giammatteo, looks for causes of pain, dysfunction, disease and disability (from the above listed systems) by use of integrative diagnostics. Once the cause is found the techniques specific for that system would be applied such as techniques listed above. The IMT approach addresses not only structural but functional rehabilitation. Structural addresses the systems of body listed above and functional addresses maximal potential of the person including: mobility, flexibility, strength, endurance, balance, coordination, and proprioception.

With our diversity in manual therapy techniques offered by all of our therapists, treatments will allow potential for increased range of motion, improved functional movement, improved spinal symmetry, normalized soft tissue mobility, improved circulation and decreased inflammation and reduction in pain for the acute and chronic pain client.
